To address the elephant in the room, here is a list of websites that are actually blocked in China under the country’s policy of Internet censorship. Occasionally some of these sites work, but 99.9% of the time they do not.
You can get around this by using a VPN, but not really worth the risk of viruses, spyware, etc.
Update: Bit.ly and ow.ly links do not work.
